Landis was born to Selanne, a Gelmorran researcher, and Theryn, a Wildwood Elezen. They lived in a small, secluded cabin near Gridania. Selanne studied ancient ruins and artifacts, while Theryn initially mistook her for a poacher. After learning the truth, he grew to respect her work and fell in love with her.Landis helped his parents around the cabin and learned about Gelmorran history through his mother. One day, Selanne discovered a rare artifact. Thieves tried to steal it, and Theryn defended her. Later, while Landis was out playing, the same thieves returned and killed both of his parents. Landis returned to find the cabin silent and abandoned. He fled, carrying only grief and the memory of his family. For several weeks, Landis wandered alone through the Shroud and into Eastern Thanalan. Near collapse, he attempted to steal food from a nearby camp. Instead, he was confronted by Morgan Asher, a black-haired, blue-eyed Midlander Paladin. Morgan saw past the boy’s desperation, listened to his story, and took him under his wing. Landis told him he wanted revenge and to recover the artifact that had caused his parents’ deaths. Morgan understood his pain and agreed to train him. From ages 7 to 11 or 12, Landis trained under Morgan in Ul’dah, learning basic combat and discipline alongside the Sultan’s Sworn and marauders. Morgan hoped the boy would grow strong and eventually let go of his desire for revenge. But when Landis was 11 or 12, Morgan left on a mission and never returned. Letters sent to him were returned unopened, and Landis realized Morgan’s disappearance had likely been orchestrated by corrupt members of the Paladin Order who resented Morgan’s pure righteousness and integrity. With no one to care for him, Landis returned to surviving on the streets. He became a thief and “collector,” stealing valuable items and relics from the rich and corrupt. Over time, he also developed a reputation as a discreet broker and moneylender, sometimes helping families that reminded him of his own lost childhood. Now 32, Landis continues his life wandering Eorzea, searching for the artifact his parents were killed for and the people responsible for their deaths, while targeting the corrupt and greedy wherever he finds them. Though he once had hope that Morgan might still be alive, he has largely accepted that revenge is the only certainty he can pursue.
Born to a Gelmorran researcher mother (Selanne) and Wildwood father (Theryn) in a quiet home near Gridania. Life was peaceful until his mother discovered a rare and dangerous artifact. Thieves came for it; his father fought them off once, but they returned while Landis was away. He returned to find both parents murdered and fled the Twelveswood in shock. Wandered alone until reaching Eastern Thanalan, where he tried to steal food and was caught by Morgan, a lone Midlander Paladin. Morgan took him in, trained him for years in combat, survival, and some paladin basics, intending to steer him toward the Sultan’s Sworn. Around age 12, Morgan vanished on a mission—rumors pointed to corruption in Ul’dah’s ranks. Left alone again, Landis reverted to theft to survive.
Teen to Early Adult Years (Late 1.0 into ARR)
Honed his skills on Ul’dah’s streets, becoming a proficient rogue and “collector” of relics. Specialized in stealing valuable artifacts, fencing goods, and lending money to corrupt officials at crippling interest rates. All the while, he quietly searched for the artifact that killed his parents and the people responsible. He clung to faint hope that Morgan might still be alive, but revenge slowly became the louder drive. By the time of the Calamity, he was already a shadow in Pearl Lane—charming, sharp, and untouchable.
A Realm Reborn to Heavensward
Operated mostly in Ul’dah’s underbelly, taking jobs that aligned with his skills: retrievals, quiet thefts, information brokering. Avoided direct involvement with the Scions or the Grand Companies, preferring independence. The rising corruption in the Syndicate and Brass Blades kept him busy (and wealthy). Occasionally crossed paths with adventurers, sometimes helping, sometimes exploiting. The loss of hope regarding Morgan hardened him further; he buried sentiment under layers of charm and cynicism.
Stormblood
With the Ala Mhigan resistance and the push into Gyr Abania, Landis saw opportunity. Traveled east under the guise of “merchanting,” quietly hunting leads on the artifact (rumors placed similar relics in ancient Gelmorran ruins or imperial hands). Worked both sides when it profited him, but never fully aligned with the Empire or the Resistance. The war sharpened his distrust of authority.
Shadowbringers
The First called to many Warriors of Light, but Landis stayed in the Source. The sudden absence of so many powerful adventurers created gaps in Ul’dah’s black market; he filled some, avoided others. Spent time tracking whispers of ancient relics surfacing in the chaos. The experience of friends and acquaintances returning changed by the First planted the first real seeds of self-reflection—he began to question whether endless revenge was worth the man it was making him.
Endwalker
As the Final Days loomed and the world teetered, Landis finally tracked down a solid lead on Morgan. He located his old mentor alive but gravely ill and dying in a remote Thanalan hideout, hidden for years to protect Landis from the same corrupt forces that had targeted him. There was no grand reconciliation—just quiet hours at Morgan’s bedside, unanswered questions, and watching the man who raised him fade. Morgan’s last words urged Landis to be better than the life he’d chosen. No closure, no absolution, but the experience cracked something in him.
Post-Endwalker to Dawntrail (Current Timeline)
The world saved, Landis has not suddenly become a hero, but he’s shifting. Still a collector, still sharp-tongued and independent, but he takes fewer jobs that prey on the desperate and occasionally helps without expecting payment. He tends bar at the Hammered Ale on quiet nights, listens more than he used to, and keeps searching for the artifact—not just for revenge now, but to understand why it destroyed his family. He’s trying, slowly and imperfectly, to become someone Morgan wouldn’t be ashamed of. The road is still long, but for the first time he’s walking it with a little less weight.
